Welcome to Hands On Charlotte!

Hands On Schools

Hands On Charlotte - as part of a national effort by Hands on Network to increase academic achievement in elementary, middle, and high schools - is partnering with AmeriCorps and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to help volunteers and community partners make a difference in our schools.

Our Strategy

The Hands On Schools project partners with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to use Hands on Charlotte’s unique volunteer mobilization style to:

  • Provide more structure and increase the impact of community volunteerism at CMS schools.
  • Train and support individuals from community partners to serve as volunteer Project Leaders at the schools.
  • Recruit middle and high school students to participate in leadership development and community service through Chatlotte/Teen, a Hands On Charlotte program that engages youth in making a difference in their communities.

Our Goals

  • Increase academic achievement of its students.
  • Increase volunteer hours devoted to academic achievement.
  • Empower community volunteers to lead targeted service projects at the schools.
  • Decrease the work required from school staff to manage volunteer activity.
